We first visited Dublin a few years ago for an Iron Man event and stayed at the Ashling Hotel as it is situated close to Phoenix Park. Situated on the main road into Jervis / Connolly, it is an easily accessible hotel with a Luas stop situated just along to the left of the main entrance. You can purchase daily or weekly tickets at the tram stop or if you are feeling energetic, and it is dry(!) it is around a 20 minute walk into the City.
The Ashling is on the pricier end of the scale for accommodation in Dublin but offers well presented rooms with plenty of space for your clothes, ample bathrooms and a bar and restaurant on the ground floor.
The front desk provide you with a map, can suggest excursions and places to visit, advise on transport options to get around the city, book your taxi back to the airport and store your bags should you be early for check in or require a later check out.
Breakfast is served daily at a cost of around 15euros per head but the menu is varied and includes a whole host of hot options, porridge, toast, pancakes, pastries, coffee, tea, juice and more - more than enough to set you up for a day of sightseeing in the city. You can pay daily or charge to your room and pay at departure.
We have stayed here a further two times since that first visit, and it is definitely somewhere I would come back to - it is slightly away from the hustle and bustle of Grafton Street and Connolly Street, however close enough to be convenient. The Guinness Factory is located close by (again within walking distance). To be fair there are not many places to eat near to the hotel itself, although the bar does serve food (we can report that their burgers are very nice!) and there is a restaurant on the ground floor (Chesterfield Brasserie). It is however close to Phoenix Park and Dublin Zoo.
Priced at around 199euros per night, the Ashling is rated as 4 stars which I would say is a true and fair rating.
With the abundance of rooms / air bnb’s now available to book through booking.com, etc, you can definitely find somewhere cheaper to stay in Dublin however it is a lovely hotel and you will be very comfortable and welcome here.
So, wherever you decide to stay in Dublin, enjoy!
