Updated: Jun 14

Laganas, a vibrant resort village on the enchanting island of Zakynthos, is a captivating blend of excitement and natural beauty. This destination is known for its white sand beaches filled with lively, modern beach clubs, wild nightlife for the younger generation, and its budget friendly accomodation. Whether you want to party all night or relax on pristine sands, this resort is a true brit-abroad dream!

Discovering Laganas Beach

Laganas Beach is the centerpiece of this lively resort. Spanning over 9 kilometers, it features golden sand and crystal-clear waters that are ideal for sunbathing or swimming. In the summer months, this beach buzzes with activity. Lined with beach clubs making for a lively atmosphere at any time of the day, there is always a party happening somewhere along the beach. For the adventurous, you can try water sports like jet skiing or parasailing. Did you know that Laganas Beach is part of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos? This park is dedicated to protecting the endangered loggerhead sea turtles that nest along its shores. Visitors often witness nests that have been marked and safeguarded by conservationists. Please keep in mind that whilst laganas beach is open 24/7, just slightly further up in Kalamaki, the beach is closed after dark and re-opens at 7am, to protect the nesting turtles, so don't wander off to far.

Lively Nightlife

When the sun goes down, Laganas transforms into one of the most energetic nightlife scenes in Greece. The main strip is lined with bars, clubs, and restaurants, making it a hotspot for party-goers. From relaxed beachside bars to high-vibe clubs that pulse with music until dawn, there’s an atmosphere for every mood.

Dance the night away at well-known clubs like Cherry Bay, Zeros Rescue as well as seeing Icon's like Nathan Dawe perform every week at his very own bar called ICON. If you prefer a quieter evening, cozy pubs offer a more laid-back experience just off of the strip, along Kalamaki Old road. Here you will find Amigo's, a still lively rock and roll themed bar (with crazy fun owners), but more suitable for those with children and the older generation. Amigos is a family favourite with many returning every year to visit their friends Thanos and Annette. According to recent tourism statistics, over 60% of visitors to Laganas say they enjoy the nightlife, highlighting its significant appeal. It is not traditional greek in the slightest, and is often most suited for young brits who come to Zante to eat, sleep, rave 1and repeat. However, as someone who loves the more traditional side of zakynthos and all things island/village life has to offer, a messy night out on Laganas strip with your friends is still a really fun time!

Culinary Delights

Beyond its nightlife, Laganas presents a culinary adventure. The area features a variety of dining options, from traditional tavernas serving authentic Greek dishes to international restaurants satisfying various palates. Some personal recommendations from our many visits over the years have to be Brusco, for delciouus greek salads right on the beach, Greco's for a luxury fine dining experience with traditional greek cusine, or visit Totis Burger for a quick but delicious grab and go Gyros. There is also a mcdonalds on the strip, which although it is extremely over priced, you must try their mcflurries, because trying every countries own mcflurry cant just be on my bucket list!!!

Nature and Attractions

One of the most stunning attractions in the region is the Blue Caves, just a short boat ride away. These caves are famous for their mesmerizing turquoise waters and unique rock formations. Many visitors consider exploring them a highlight of their trip. Navagio Beach, often referred to as Shipwreck Beach, is one of the world's most photographed spots. With towering cliffs and a sunken ship, its dramatic scenery attracts thousands of visitors each year. Laganas is home to Agios Sostis harbour, a place you can book both private or shared boat trips to the top sea-side destinations around the island. You are also situated directly opposite Marathonisi island (otherwise known as turtle island), so it is likely you wont even need a boat to see some turtles, and you may infact encounter one just out for a swim or on a pedalo.

Wildlife and Conservation

Laganas is a sanctuary for the loggerhead turtle, and several conservation programs work to protect these remarkable creatures. Visitors can join turtle-watching excursions or even volunteer for conservation projects. These activities not only provide memorable experiences but also raise awareness about the significance of protecting marine life.

Engaging with wildlife conservation is rewarding and essential for preserving Zakynthos's vibrant ecosystem. By participating, you can gain deeper appreciation for the environment while making a positive impact.

It is important to be mindful of the environmental factors of a turtle watching tour. Please note that businesses must not be getting too close or crowding around the turtles, and must have their boat engines off when coming up to close quarters. Turtles are also not to be tourched or interfered with, as this can make them vunerable to pray and potentially die. It is crucial that if you do find yourself on a tour that does not adhere to these rules, you report it, as the National marine park are working tirelessly to keep Zakynthos a safe breeding space for the Caretta Loggerhead turtle.

Shopping and Local Markets

To take home a piece of Laganas, explore the shop lined streets along the strip.. Wander through the lively streets lined with shops selling everything from beachwear, I heart Zakynthos t shirts, evil eye bracelets etc to traditional Greek products such as olive oil, honey and pottery.
